Wolves are in for a frantic end to the transfer window and reports suggest that they are on the verge of signing a new midfielder to replace Matheus Nunes.

Gary O’Neil is also looking to bring in a new striker, with Che Adams thought to be his top target. The deal with Southampton, however, now appears to be off.

As a result, the Midlands club may have to focus on alternatives as they look to bring in competition for Matheus Cunha, Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva.

One of O’Neil’s biggest priorities, though, is signing a new centre-mid, after Nunes joined Manchester City for £53m earlier today.

Fulham’s Harrison Reed is one potential option. Everton are also interested in the 28-year-old, but the Liverpool Echo claim that Wolves are the team leading the race for his signature.

A separate report from Sky Sports claims, however, that Wolves have agreed a ‘deal in principle’ to sign Strasbourg midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde. TEAMtalk understands that the fee is €15m (£12.8m).

The club’s representatives are now set to fly to France to finalise the deal, so it appears that Wolves will get at least one more player through the door before the 11pm deadline.

Wolves’ Adams deal ‘currently off’

While Wolves are making good progress on the midfielder front, their reported loan move for Adams has reportedly collapsed.

That is according to reputed transfer journalist David Onstein. On Twitter, Ornstein wrote: “Southampton have blocked proposed Che Adams transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“The 27-year-old Scotland striker was due to extend his Saints contract and go on loan with £15m buy option that could become obligation. Deal currently off.”

As a result, Wolves will have to switch their attention to alternatives if they want to bring in a new striker before the deadline.

What seems almost certain, though, is that Bellegarde will be playing his football at Molineux this season.
