Everton’s Dele Alli sends a social media message to Alex Iwobi following the confirmation of his departure.
Everton midfielder Dele Alli has texted Alex Iwobi after completing his move to Premier League rivals Fulham on transfer deadline day.
The Toffees confirmed Iwobi’s exit on September 2, with Sky Sports News stating that Everton paid about £22 million for his services (1 September).
After completing his deadline-day move to the Cottagers, Iwobi turned to Instagram to publish a photo of himself in his new Fulham jersey, having signed a long-term contract.
Iwobi captioned the Instagram post (1 September): “New Chapter, Let’s Go!”
Everton midfielder Dele Alli responded with an emoji message of a purple heart and a star to congratulate Iwobi on his departure from Goodison Park after four years.
Will you take up the mantle?
We all know how much Iwobi will be missed by the Toffees this season, since he was Dyche’s most creative and crucial outlet when Everton needed it the most.
It’s a shame the Blues were unable to replace Iwobi’s quality, and it’ll be interesting to see how the club reacts to this setback and how Dyche looks to replace the Nigerian’s particular qualities in the final third.
In Iwobi’s absence, Everton are arguably without a creative number 10 in the team, which may potentially allow Alli to take on Iwobi’s mantle and eventually make his imprint as he continues his road to full fitness.
Even though the bulk of Goodison Park supporters mistrust Dele’s ability to replace Iwobi, he is Everton’s best option for a number 10 and it’s unclear how Everton would live without one, which means they may have to put all their chips in the Alli basket.
His return from physical and mental health concerns simply cannot come soon enough, but it could be another couple of months.
In other Everton news, the Toffees appear to have put a stop to a prospective key player exit, as Sky Sports reporter Alan Myers gives a transfer update.
