According to a source, Stoke City are preparing to make a move for a released Newcastle United player.
Alan Nixon claims that Stoke City are poised to make a move for free agent Ciaran Clark.
Clark, 33, was released by Newcastle United at the end of last season after a six-year stint with the Magpies in which he appeared in 129 games.
He gradually fell out of favor at the club, spending last season on loan at Sheffield United, where injury limited him to just 10 Championship appearances.
And it now appears that the 36-cap Republic of Ireland international will return to the Championship with Stoke City, with Nixon stating on his Patreon yesterday that the Potters are poised to make a move for Clark.
Over the summer, Alex Neil’s team added 18 new players, including a few free agents in Michael Rose, Enda Stevens, and Daniel Johnson.
Stoke to Clark
Despite bringing in two new centre-backs in Rose and Luke McNally, Stoke City appear eager to recruit more names and another centre-back.
Neil’s side has started poorly, and it appears that the Potters need some acclimating time with their new players, so adding another to the mix doesn’t appear to assist all that much.
Clark is an experienced free agent who will no certainly have interest now that the transfer window has closed, and a move to Stoke could appeal to him.
Given the flood of new signings at the bet365 Stadium this summer, it remains to be seen whether he will have easy access to game time at Stoke.
Clark will be contemplating his options, although a number of clubs will be looking into a possible move for him now that the window has closed.
