‘Quality’ Clement Lenglet to bring ‘proven’ experience to Aston Villa but won’t stay beyond loan

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Clement Lenglet will be a good addition to Aston Villa, but will only come in as “short-term” cover, according to Ty Bracey.

The Frenchman was spotted with sporting director Monchi as he was introduced as Villa’s latest recruit on deadline day (1 September), joining on a season-long loan from La Liga giants Barcelona with no obligation to buy.

He earned Premier League experience last season when on loan at Tottenham, but he struggled to make an impact on the team and has since been judged surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, but Unai Emery now has the option to use him.

While praising Lenglet for his wealth of experience at the top level of the game and in European competition with Barca, Bracey has tipped the 28-year-old to be just a “short-term” addition, suggesting that Lenglet will be unlikely to remain at Villa Park after his loan spell.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It’s just another short-term cover at the back, but it’s good to have that there and someone who is proven at the highest level and in Europe.

“He’ll be paid well, but you have to pay for quality.” I’m pleased; it’s one of those things where having insurance is never a bad thing.

“I saw him at Barcelona, and he’s not a bad signing.” It doesn’t always work out for players at Barcelona, but you’re not going to be a poor player if you’re on their books, are you?”

In unrelated Aston Villa news, a prominent player’s surprisingly poor performance exposed the club’s problems.
