Pedro Neto of Wolves has sent a warning to Liverpool’s defenders ahead of the match at Molineux.
Neto is ready to put his skills to the test against Liverpool’s defense, although he will not be pitted against their first-choice defensive pairing due to the club’s persistent injury issue.
Jurgen Klopp isn’t the only one disappointed that Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez aren’t available on Monday; Wolves’ Pedro Neto is as well.
Neto has been a shining light for Nuno Espirito Santo this season.
But the 21-year-old wants to improve and believes there are no better people to compare himself to than the pair who are currently crocked.
“I’d prefer it if Van Dijk and Gomez played because I want to play against the best so I can improve,” he stated.
“What is the best aspect of football?” When we get the opportunity to play with the best. That’s why I’m in this league: to prove to myself that I can perform my job and play my own game.”
That self-assurance stems from a consistent spot in Nuno’s starting XI.
Neto’s impact has already been recognized by teammate Ruben Neves. The talented midfielder considers the youthful winger to be the club’s finest player this season. Conor Coady, the captain, continues telling the winger how far he has come.
“I don’t know how to say it, but I’m not bothered about that,” Neto remarked. I care about being the best, and it’s fine if other people talk about me. However, I dislike talking about myself.
“It’s nice to be recognized if they say I’m the best.”
“I know a lot of folks my age wish they were where I am. ‘Look where you are at 21.’ adds Coady.
“I thank him and tell him, ‘Please don’t say that,’ even though it’s very nice to hear.”
Neto has five goals and five assists for his team this season, with Sky Sports commentator Graeme Souness recently suggesting he is “destined to go to one of the really big clubs.”
Wolves have no new injury concerns for Monday’s match, while Liverpool are still waiting to see if Roberto Firmino is healthy.
