Andre Gomes of Everton thanks fans and teammates, notably Theo Walcott, for their support following successful surgery on his terrible ankle fracture, which will require months of rehabilitation.

On Sunday, Andre Gomes suffered a fracture dislocation at Goodison Park.

Jordan Pickford tweeted his ‘brother’ support, stating, ‘We’re all here for you.’

Theo Walcott, the striker, said on social media that he was praying for the midfielder.

‘Everton Football Club can confirm Andre Gomes underwent surgery to repair a fracture dislocation to his right ankle earlier today and the procedure went extremely well,’ he said. ‘Andre will now spend some time recovering in the hospital, before returning to USM Finch Farm to start his rehabilitation under the guidance of the club’s medical staff. He is expected to make a full recovery.

‘On behalf of Andre, the club would like to thank all Everton supporters and members of the wider football family for the overwhelming words of support we have received since yesterday’s match,’ read a statement from the club.

‘We’re all here for you,’ Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford tweeted. ‘I hope to see you on the field as soon as possible.’ Striker Theo Walcott said, ‘Praying for you @aftgomes, keep strong dear friend.’

After a challenge by Tottenham’s Son Heung Min, who was sent off and moved to tears after witnessing the awful injury, Gomes’ foot appeared to twist in the ground at Goodison Park.

Son’s colleague Serge Aurier, who was also involved in the accident, was seen praying on the field and was later substituted, unable to continue playing.

Tosun, a Turkish striker who came on as a replacement and equalized, hurried over to cradle Gomes and prevent him from seeing the depth of his injury.

‘Everyone is really depressed on the inside,’ he remarked. ‘Some players almost cried. He was taken aback. His eyes were wide open. He was sobbing, yelling, and screaming.

‘I just tried to embrace him and speak to him; I told him to keep calm. We couldn’t comprehend what he was saying. He was the one who had been hurt.’

Gomes formerly played for Barcelona and maintained a lavish lifestyle with his fiancée Lisa Goncalves, a Spanish dentist, but the couple is thought to have broken up.
