Wolves have confirmed Conor Coady’s departure to Leicester in an £8.5 million agreement.
Conor Coady has been sold by Wolves to Leicester for a deal that could potentially exceed £8.5 million.

The former captain departs Molineux after eight years in which he made over 300 appearances and cemented his place in club history.

The England international has agreed to terms with the King Power Stadium on a three-year contract.

Coady, who joined Wolves from Huddersfield in 2015, captained the team that won the Championship three years later and also wore the armband as Wolves finished seventh in the Premier League twice in a row and reached the Europa League quarter-finals.

The 30-year-old defender, who has 10 England caps, fell out of favor with previous manager Bruno Lage at the start of last season and spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Everton.

He was scheduled to meet with current Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui after the Toffees declined a £4.5 million buyout option.

With the possibility of merely being utilized as a squad player, the move to Leicester is appealing for a player who values regular playing.

“I’d like to place on record our thanks to Conor for the incredible years of service he’s given to the football club – he’s been a brilliant footballer and above all a brilliant person, on and off the pitch,” said sporting director Matt Hobbs.

“As captain, he helped drive the club forward, leading us into the Premier League and then into European football, and he felt incredible pride every time he represented Wolves.”

“While this move benefits everyone, we’re letting Conor go with a heavy heart.” He has contributed significantly to Wolves throughout the years and will be remembered in the club’s great history.”

Wolves will get an initial payment of £7.5 million, with an additional £1 million coming if Coady helps Leicester, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, return to the top tier.
