Jake Young wins EFL League Two Player of the Month for August
Forward wins first monthly accolade of 2023/24
Swindon Town forward Jake Young has been named the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month for August.
A dream month for Young who scored seven goals, including four in 24 minutes against Crawley, in just four games. Learning from Charlie Austin alongside him and forming a dynamic understanding with fellow loanee Dan Kemp, he added three assists.
Swindon manager Michael Flynn said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for Jake to win the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month in August, I’m sure he will appreciate all the help of his team-mates during this period and I look forward to seeing him score more goals for us in future!”
Young said: “I’m over the moon to win this award and I’m grateful to the team and staff at the club for the efforts that have allowed me to have such a good personal month.
“It’s been an exciting start to the season for the club and we are all looking forward to taking our good form from August into the next run of games.”
Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “Scoring four goals in just over 20 minutes is a feat that probably put Jake Young in pole position for this award alone, but it really was a remarkable month for the Swindon man.
“Charlie Austin is the big name in the Swindon attack, but Young has been the star so far this season. Ten goal involvements in just four games is a staggering statistic.”
Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies said: “Before a ball was kicked, on-loan Swindon striker Jake Young wasn’t even in the betting for the Sky Bet League Two top scorer award, but after he netted four goals in the 6-0 hammering of Crawley, Sky Bet installed him as the 9/1 second-favourite behind Macaulay Langstaff.
“Swindon are still unbeaten after five games and are into 4/1 for promotion from 6/1 at the start of the month.”
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
The 22-year-old will be looking to continue this rich vein of form as we look ahead to this weekend’s game against Sutton.
Congratulations, Youngy!
