Heartbreak’: 24-year-old confirms exit on Instagram with touching message to Leeds fans

Tyler Roberts has taken to Instagram to send a heartfelt message to Leeds United fans after it was confirmed that Birmingham City has completed a permanent deal for the Wales star – ending a five-year stint on the Leeds books.

Roberts, 24, joined Leeds in January 2018 from West Brom for a fee that might have reached £4m with add-ons. The versatile attacker, though, managed just 108 senior outings for Leeds in the five years he spent in Yorkshire.

The forward was often on the sidelines injured, and last summer chose to go on loan to QPR in the Championship. A move that did not go to plan. Roberts was looking to play regularly to break into the Wales squad for the World Cup.

But, injury hampered his progress and he missed out on a plane ticket to Qatar. He managed just 20 appearances for QPR – scoring four goals. Roberts has reacted on Instagram to his move to Birmingham, with a touching post.

A shame it never worked out for Roberts. A player with supreme potential, versatility and an eye for goal. He was a player capable of producing performances like his display in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea – when he hit the bar.

Certainly, if that had gone in, it could and would have been the making of his Leeds career. But instead, he only scored one Premier League goal for Leeds – bundling one home against Southampton. Now, he is off down south.

Born in Gloucestershire, Roberts moves to Birmingham City after coming through at West Brom. It sees him return closer to home. It is unclear how much he will cost but it is likely to be less than the originally reported £750k fee.
