DANIEL FARKE SENDS A
STRONG MESSAGE TO LEEDS UNITED STARS.
Leeds United’s squad has been decimated by departures, with a number of key players moving on loan or permanently, leaving the club with a depleted squad.
Daniel Farke underlines that the club is bigger than any one player and that if a player wants to go, the club will not urge them to stay.
Farke’s priority is to educate and support the players, demonstrating that the club is always in control and in the driving seat.
Daniel Farke is refusing to dwell in hardship as his Leeds United squad is decimated by pre-season plans.
The German manager arrived at Elland Road earlier this summer, but despite some solid purchases, he has seen the club lose a number of stars, including Rodrigo and Brody Aaronson, as well as defenders Max Wober, Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen, and Marc Roca, who all left after the club was relegated last season.
Leeds are beginning to see the sides of a squad that is down to its bare bones, with just the former being a £3m sale, given that their other players have only left on loan in an attempt to dramatically decrease the pay budget ahead of a perilous campaign in the second-tier.
Even with their defensive contingent obliged to play, the rest of the team is being weakened. Luis Sinisterra, Willy Gnonto, and Tyler Adams have all been linked with moves away from the club in recent weeks, and it appears that only large sums of money will persuade them to leave west Yorkshire. Farke repeated this stance, assuring his players that the club is greater than them and that he will not ‘ask’ them to go.
What did Daniel Farke have to say about his team?
Farke stated in a press conference ahead of Leeds’ home game against West Bromwich Albion on Friday evening: “We need each and every player.” I have no idea how our team will look by the end of August. Every gamer has my undivided attention and focus.
“I’ve been there before, so it’s up to us to educate the players and demonstrate as a club that we’re always in control.” Young players are present, and they are in the same scenario. I had to leave out two players because they weren’t focused, and they ended up being the heroes of promotion.
“The club is bigger than any one person.” It is critical that we learn from the mistakes of the past. My approach will never be to ask a player to return. Leeds United is our name.”
Who were Daniel Farke’s remarks directed at?
Willy Gnonto did not play in Leeds’ Carabao Cup match against Shrewsbury last week, but it soon became clear that the young Italy international had voluntarily opted out of the game in order to force a move away from Elland Road. He has been extensively linked with Everton in recent weeks as Sean Dyche looks to bolster his squad – yet fellow Leeds winger Jack Harrison has also signed on loan with the Toffees, which might see Gnonto utilised as a striker.
Meanwhile, Luis Sinisterra is working on his own at Thorp Arch after Farke indicated that, while Sinisterra has a release clause, there are ‘open’ questions about his future, and he will not practice with the first team until the legalities are resolved.
Helder Costa has also been banned, though his absence is much more amicable due to his reduced squad status after failing to play much for the Whites last summer.
