‘Deadly’ £18.5m star tells why he turned down Leeds in the summer to join rivals
Cameron Archer was reported by The Yorkshire Post as claiming that he picked Sheffield United over Aston Villa because he had a “feeling” about them.
Archer, 21, had spent the previous two seasons on loan in the Championship. He, like Cody Drameh, has spent the previous two Januarys on loan with two different clubs. Preston, first and foremost.
In the second half of the 2021-22 season, he had seven goals and twenty assists. Then, after joining Boro in January, he scored 11 goals and created six more in 23 appearances for Michael Carrick’s outstanding team.
Back at Villa, he was behind Ollie Watkins, Nicolo Zaniolo, and Jhon Duran in the pecking order. As a result, he elected to relocate. The striker chose to join Sheffield United for £18.5 million.
Archer was a target, according to Angus Kinnear, and Leeds were eager to grant him a permanent home. He has now justified his decision, explaining that he had a gut feeling about the Blades.
“Premier League football, passionate fans, a big club,” he remarked as he justified his decision. “You just have that feeling when a club is interested, and I had that feeling about Sheffield United.”
Archer discusses why he selected Sheffield United over Leeds United.
Archer’s ultimate goal was to play in the Premier League. Even if it means joining a club in danger of relegation. He wants to show everyone, especially Villa, that he can succeed in the Premier League.
He would have been a fantastic acquisition for Leeds, but it was not to be. Archer has had a strong start in the Premier League for Paul Heckingbottom’s side, which Charlie Cresswell has described as “deadly.”
