The bail of an Everton player detained on suspicion of child sex offenses has been extended once more.
An Everton player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was detained last summer on suspicion of child sex offenses and has had his bail extended for the fourth time until July 16.
An Everton footballer who was detained last summer on suspicion of child sex offenses has had his bail extended once more.
Greater Manchester Police had previously extended his bail three times.
The player was released on police bail on Friday, July 16, 2021, after being detained. This was extended to Sunday, January 16, 2022, which was then extended to Wednesday, January 19, 2022.
Greater Manchester Police announced to Mirror Football in January that it has been extended a third time, until April 17th, 2022. As investigations continue, the date has now been pushed back to July 16, according to a new announcement.
“A 31-year-old man arrested on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences has had his bail extended after our application was approved by magistrates,” Greater Manchester Police stated in a statement. As investigations continue, he will be summoned to answer bail on Saturday, July 16th.”
Last July, authorities stormed his home and arrested the Premier League star. The player, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is still suspended by his club, which is cooperating with the police inquiry.
Greater Manchester Police stated at the time of his arrest last year: “Officers arrested a man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences.”
“He is being held on police bail pending further investigation.”
“Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation,” Everton said in a statement.
“The Club will continue to assist the authorities with their investigations and will make no further statements at this time.”
The athlete has not yet been charged with any crimes, according to police.
“This has caused a massive shock,” a source told the Mirror shortly after the arrest.
“Any suggestion of allegations of child-related offenses should be taken seriously from the moment they are made.”
“Clearly, this matter must be thoroughly investigated,” the insider continued. Allegations of this type will frighten everyone in the club, as well as the supporters and the general public.
“We’ll have to wait and see where the investigation takes us.”
