Tyrone Mings gives a heartfelt 16-word statement to Newcastle United fans following sad injury news.

Tyrone Mings of Aston Villa has sent an emotional statement of appreciation to Newcastle United personnel and supporters after suffering a serious injury on the first day of the Premier League season.

After suffering a significant knee injury,’ the England international was stretchered off the St James’ Park pitch in the 31st minute. The Magpies were leading 2-1 at the time and went on to win the game 5-1.

Mings fell awkwardly after sprinting for the ball against Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and required treatment on the field before being stretchered off in a protective boot.

Aston Villa issued the following statement on Monday morning: “Aston Villa can confirm that Tyrone Mings has sustained a significant knee injury.” The England international was stretchered off the pitch after injuring his knee during Villa’s encounter against Newcastle United on Saturday.

“The defender has undergone scans and will, unfortunately, require surgery ahead of a lengthy rehabilitation process.”

Mings expressed his unhappiness with the injury on social media after the announcement was posted, promising to ‘give everything off the field to come back even better’.

He went on to congratulate Newcastle United’s players, supporters, and staff for their actions on the day and in the hours that followed. “The applause, messages, and medical support I received on the day were really appreciated,” Mings stated.

Online, Magpies supporters appreciated the Villa star’s ‘classy’ statement, and well wishes poured in for the defender. “Wishing you a speedy recovery Tyrone,” one Newcastle United fan tweeted. It’s terrible to witness someone get harmed while performing; no one wants to see that. Best wishes.”
