ASHLEY YOUNG SENDS A HEARTFELT MESSAGE TO EVERTON FANS AFTER A DISAPPOINTED STARTING SEASON
Everton defender Ashley Young has asked the club’s supporters to be patient with the squad after an appalling start to the season.
After falling to Arsenal 1-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday, Everton remain without a win in the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Last season, Sean Dyche led a tight relegation escape, giving fans hope that the upcoming season will bring better fortunes for the Merseyside club.
However, things haven’t gone as planned, with Everton picking up only one point from their first five games, a 2-2 draw with newly promoted Sheffield United before the international break.
Everton’s defeat to Arsenal was their fourth in a row, leaving them in the relegation zone. Young has asked fans to gather behind the squad as it goes through a difficult phase.
“We’re only a few games in — if we were nearing the end of the season, we’d be questioning things,” Young said (via The Athletic).
“There are plenty of games and points to be had.” We have to take positives from the games, like generating opportunities, and on different days, we would have more points on the board.”
When asked if he had any words for the supporters, Young replied, “Stay with us. Continue to support us as they have.
“Whether we’re at home or away, the Everton fans are fantastic every week.” It is up to us as players on the field to keep them coming back and score points.”
Everton’s sole win this season came in the League Cup second round against League Two side Doncaster Rovers.
The Toffees will play Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium next Saturday before facing Aston Villa in the third round of the League Cup.
