Newcastle United are in discussions with a £40 million international after the ‘done deal’ with Bruno Guimaraes.
Newcastle United are allegedly aiming to extend Joelinton’s contract.

Joelinton joined Newcastle from Hoffenheim in 2019 for a then-club record fee of £40 million. He agreed to a six-year contract that would end in 2025.
Despite struggling during his first two and a half seasons at the club, Eddie Howe’s appointment as head coach converted the Brazilian into a midfield destroyer rather than a misfiring attacker. Joelinton was voted Newcastle’s player of the season in 2021-22 before going on to assist the team in finishing fourth in the Premier League last season.

Joelinton became a senior international for Brazil as a result of this and has since won four caps for his country, scoring on his debut. The 27-year-old is presently sidelined after sustaining a knee injury while on international duty with Brazil, but he is expected to return before the next international break in October.

Meanwhile, Newcastle is negotiating a new contract with Joelinton. The Magpies recently announced a one-year contract extension for Callum Wilson and are believed to have reached an agreement with Bruno Guimaraes to extend his deal until June 2028.

When asked if any new contracts will be revealed during his pre-match press conference on Friday, head coach Eddie Howe replied, “Not that I know of, no.”

Joelinton has made 159 appearances for Newcastle and scored 22 goals in that time. He had his finest scoring season in 2022-23, when he netted eight goals in 40 appearances across all competitions despite spending the most of the season in midfield or on the left wing.
