Leicester City sends a one-word reaction to Newcastle United’s 8-0 triumph against Sheffield United.
The latest Leicester City news, with Harvey Barnes and Luke Thomas both starting the Premier League match at Bramall Lane.

Leicester City may breathe a sigh of relief as Newcastle United fell just short of breaking the club’s Premier League record.

On Sunday afternoon, Newcastle United hosted freshly promoted Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Despite not scoring until the 21st minute of the game, the Magpies won 8-0 in the Premier League duel.

Scorers included Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron, Bruno Guimaraes, and Alexander Isak. But it wasn’t enough to break City’s record for the largest away win in league history.

City still holds the record, having defeated Southampton 9-0 in October 2019. Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez both scored hat tricks in the game, while Ben Chilwell, Youri Tielemans, and James Maddison also scored.

Harvey Barnes began that game for City, and he also started for Newcastle. He was replaced in the first half owing to injury. Luke Thomas, on loan from City, also began for the Blades on a day to forget.

Newcastle scores their eighth goal of the game in the 87th minute, allowing them three minutes and 15 seconds to match City’s record. However, they were unable to locate the goal, prompting a response from City’s social media account.

They just reacted on X (previously Twitter) with “Phew” followed by a relieved face emoji after the full-time whistle. On social media, several City fans expressed their delight that the club’s record had not been broken.

“Yeah to be honest, only big clubs win the Premier League 9-0 away from home,” one fan remarked, while another added, “9-0 away isn’t for everyone.”
