Leicester City have been faced with a ‘worst-case scenario’ injury to Callum Doyle.
The Manchester City loanee has sustained a long-term injury, and Enzo Maresca understands that his team will have to adjust to the loss of a player who had played every minute up to half-time at the weekend.

Callum Doyle has sustained a long-term injury that represents the “worst-case scenario” for Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca.

The loanee from Manchester City exited the King Power Stadium on crutches and wearing a leg brace to protect his left knee. He was taken off at halftime in City’s 1-0 win over Bristol City.

Doyle had a scan on Monday, and while more tests are needed to determine precisely what the problem is and how long he will be out, Maresca does not expect him to be available for quite some time. It’s a setback because Doyle is the only left-footed defender on the team.

“Unfortunately, it’s not good,” Maresca told reporters on Tuesday. “We’re expecting him to be out for a long time.” “We have no idea how long.”When you play football, you are aware that such incidents might occur. It’s his first significant injury. I had him for three years and he was never hurt. He played every game for Sunderland. He played every game at Coventry. That’s all there is to it.

“They are conducting some checks.” They just told me that it may be a long time, but we don’t know the extent of the injuries or the time frame.

“I’m not sure if it’s the worst-case situation for us. For the most part, we have two players for each position. Callum, who is left-footed, is perhaps the only position where we only have one. We’ll figure something out. We’ll adjust.”

Giving James Justin more playing time might be the solution. While not a left-footer, the England international replaced Doyle at halftime against Bristol City, and he has done admirably in all of his appearances this season.

“(Justin) has already played twice in the cup,” Maresca said. “He played three at the back against Southampton, but on the right side because he’s right-footed.” We used him on the left side against Bristol City, and he performed admirably. He may be one of our profiles.”
