Norwich City footballer jailed for causing serious crash after taking laughing gas
Two people sustained serious injuries in the collision
A professional football player was sentenced to prison after ingesting laughing gas and causing a serious collision. Flynn Clarke, 20, of Norwich City, was driving a BMW when he drifted into the opposing lane.
The BMW then collided with a campervan at 50 mph near Thorney in Cambridgeshire. The crash seriously injured both the owner of the RV and a back seat passenger in the BMW.
Prosecutors claimed witnesses described Clarke, a Scotland Under-21 international, as driving in a “indecisive manner” and struggled to stay in his lane before the April 2022 incident.
The automobile contained evidence of the usage of nitrous oxide, a common recreational substance often known as laughing gas.
Clarke was sentenced to 12 months in prison and a 30-month driving suspension at Peterborough Crown Court. He had already pled guilty to three counts of inflicting severe harm by driving recklessly.
