Everton player Andre Gomes may be out of the Aston Villa encounter due to an Achilles problem, according to an injury expert.
Dr. Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, has joined us as an exclusive writer. He’ll be sharing his thoughts on Everton’s injury situation every week…
According to Dr. Rajpal Brar, Everton player Andre Gomes may be suffering from something more serious than a calf injury.
Sean Dyche’s comments regarding the Portugal international, in which he labeled his absence as “calf tightness,” elicited a response from the injury specialist.
However, the 30-year-old is not likely to miss weeks at a time as a result of this, and it may potentially indicate an Achilles problem, though this has not been proven.
Brar, a physical therapist and sports scientist, told Goodison News exclusively about his situation:
“It does sound more like an overt injury than just calf tightness based on not playing this season, unless that’s purely a managerial decision.”
“Calf injuries are also notoriously sensitive and prone to re-injury.
“The other consideration is ‘calf’ can refer to the entire calf complex which also includes structures like the Achilles which is far more grave.
“He’s not expected back this week so can rule him out.”
On September 27, the Toffees will face Aston Villa in the EFL Cup at Villa Park.
Dyche’s team are coming off a 3-1 Premier League victory against Brentford and will be aiming to keep the momentum going.
Cup games are typically opportunities for fringe players to play, but Gomes does not appear to be one of them.
