Newcastle United has reportedly received bad news ahead of their Matchday 2 UEFA Champions League contest against Paris Saint-Germain. The Magpies will welcome the capital club, but they will do so without having one of their quality defenders, Sven Botman.

The English club is walking into their match with PSG already facing injuries to key players. Botman and Callum Wilson missed the 2-0 win over Burnley with knee and hamstring issues, respectively.

Furthermore, The Athletic reports that Botman will miss Wednesday’s Champions League group stage match against PSG due to his knee injury. The Premier League side was also dealt another injury blow this weekend.

Joelinton was forced off with a hamstring problem four minutes after coming on after returning from a knee layoff.

“It looks like a hamstring (for Joelinton),” Newcastle manager Eddie How said (h/t Daily Mail). “That would be a huge blow if we lose him. Callum’s got a very minor hamstring problem.

“We hope we will see him before the international break, but there’s no guarantee. Sven has a knee problem, and I don’t think we’ll see him before the international break. Hopefully, we’ll see him very quickly afterward.”

So, these next few days will determine who will be available ahead of Wednesday’s contest. PSG did have their injury scare with Kylian Mbappé, but the 24-year-old did play in the 0-0 draw against Clermont Foot.
