Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as transfer chief Monchi is linked with the Villans
Aston Villa are ‘finalising details’ on a move for Sevilla sporting director Monchi, it is claimed.
The transfer chief would reunite with Villa boss Unai Emery after the pair working together during a spell which included three successive Europa League titles between 2014 and 2016.
It was claimed on Thursday that Sevilla had reached an agreement with Monchi for the termination of his contract. Villa were said to need to pay a release clause of €3million (£2.6m) to appoint the Spaniard.
One of the clauses inserted in Monchi’s contract was a three-month period notice which was not met. A report by Spanish newspaper AS states that ‘only the official announcement is missing’ following an agreement between parties.
And now reports from Sevilla ABC claim via SportWitness that Villa are ‘finalising details’ to complete a deal. It is claimed that his departure was expected to be made official earlier on Friday but there are still things to sort out.
Sevilla are said to be waiting for the process to be completed but there is no belief that the process will be ‘delayed’. Whilst he has not spoken publicly about his future, it is said Monchi could be seen ‘crestfallen’ when coming in and out of Sevilla’s stadium during apparent talks with the club’s hierarchy.
