Raiders Owner Caught on Video Fighting With His Own Team’s Fans: ‘Smarten Up!’
In what can be viewed as emblematic of the Las Vegas Raiders’ disastrous start to the 2023 season, team owner Mark Davis was seen yelling at fans Sunday during the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
A group of fans walked past Davis’ suite as the game was going on. In the video posted online, the group can be heard yelling at Davis to fire head coach Josh McDaniels. Davis appeared to take exception to the comments and told them to “smarten up.” He repeated the phrase and had some additional words for the group that couldn’t be heard on the video.
Last week, McDaniels was placed squarely on the hot seat after the team lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-18. With the Raiders trailing 23-15 late in the fourth quarter, McDaniels decided to have his team kick a field goal as opposed to trying for a touchdown and then a two-point conversion to tie the game. The field goal was made with 2:22 left in the game. Due to the Raiders’ defense not being able to stop the Steelers as soon as possible, the offense didn’t get the ball back until there were just 12 seconds left.
Unfortunately for McDaniels, that isn’t the end of it. In addition to his coaching abilities coming into question, one of his former players bizarrely accused him of playing a role in the death of ex-NFL player Aaron Hernandez.
