Ex-Warriors champion reportedly set to retire

One player is leaving the Golden State Warriors a little over a year after they won the NBA championship.

According to the European news site Sportando, veteran player Nemanja Bjelica has chosen to retire from basketball.

Bjelica joined Crvena Zvezda in Serbia this summer after spending last season at Fenerbahce in Turkey. However, chronic leg problems (particularly in his calf) have apparently caused Bjelica to reconsider his future and retire instead.

Bjelica, 35, spent seven seasons in the NBA between 2015 and 22. Bjelica was a dynamic player who had spells in Minnesota, Sacramento, Miami, and Golden State. He could sink threes, crash the glass, and make plays off the dribble.

He appeared in 71 games for the Warriors during their championship season in 2021-22, averaging 6.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 16.1 minutes per game off the bench.

Bjelica was a EuroLeague MVP and a crucial player of Serbia’s silver medal-winning squad in the 2014 FIBA World Cup before joining the NBA.

Bjelica now quits from professional basketball after 16 seasons (and one amazing TKO via submission).
