New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills after suffering a neck injury in Week 5
Daniel Jones has been ruled out for the New York Giants‘ Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced on Friday that Jones will not be playing when the team heads upstate on Sunday.
Jones’ injury and exit from Sunday’s game was caused by the impact from Miami’s Andrew Van Ginkel. In a play that saw the Dolphins’ linebacker successfully get a sack from behind, Jones’ head visibly snapped back upon contact.
Despite sitting out on Wednesday and Thursday’s practices, the Giants confirmed that Jones will not be game-ready by Sunday.
‘I think he’s getting better,’ Daboll said. ‘But not good enough to play for this game.’
Jones is no stranger to neck injuries from sacks. In 2021, Jones suffered a cervical neck sprain against the Eagles that caused him to miss the last six weeks of the season. Jones also suffered an ankle sprain on October 2 against the Seahawks but played through the injury.
The Giants, who have struggled offensively, are 1-4 this season and scored only one touchdown in their last three games.
The agony continues as Jones joins a laundry list of teammates who will not be on the field this Sunday. Left tackle Andrew Thomas is out with a hamstring injury. Center John Michael Schmitz and offensive tackle Matt Peart’s shoulder injuries have them sidelined. Meanwhile, outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari is ruled out with an ankle injury.
Running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Darren Waller are questionable with ankle and groin complications, respectively.
‘It’s a contact sport, so the idea is to be healed,’ Jones said. ‘I’m trying get there as soon as possible so I can get back out there.’
