Former Bears player Steve McMichael is recovering in the intensive care unit after being treated for sepsis.
“He deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.” Please pray for his recovery,” his wife wrote in a statement.
The Football Hall of Fame seniors committee will announce up to three player finalists on Aug. 22.
His family claimed in a Saturday update that he is recuperating and the sepsis is gone, but McMichael is still fighting pneumonia.
“Steve will remain in the intensive care unit for a few more days on IV antibiotics to clear this infection.” “He also has some fluid in his lungs, which is being treated,” Misty McMichael said from her husband’s bedside. “He’s still as feisty as ever.” Mongo has returned! Please continue to send your prayers.”
According to the statement, McMichael had a DNR in place until the drive for his entry into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the senior category gained steam in the last month.
McMichael indicated to his doctor, who visits him frequently at home, late Thursday night that he wanted to be transferred to the hospital, therefore the DNR was revoked.
Steve passed out while waiting for the ambulance. On Friday, he awoke at 7 a.m. after being given IV antibiotics to clear the illnesses.
