Tawera Nikau Loses Leg In
Accident
Former Melbourne Storm player and Kiwi international Tawera Nikau had to have his leg amputated at Waikato Hospital on Wednesday night.
League Correspondent has reported that surgeons amputated Nikau’s leg just below his knee after complications developed following a motorcycle accident Nikau had a month ago.
The 36-year old had broken his leg in the accident when his Harley Davidson motor cycle was hit by an oncoming car.
It seems to be a continuation of the bad luck which seems to follow Nikau, while playing in Britain, Tawera’s wife committed suicide which forced his return home and his eventual retirement from playing the game he loves.
Of late , Nikau has been a coaching co-ordinator for the NZRL in the Waikato.
Nikau was also billed as one of the heaveyweight fighters in the annual Yellow Ribbon, Fight for Life charity boxing match against Australian sports stars. It is held in order to help prevent youth suicide on both sides of the Tasman.
I am sure I am not alone in wishing “T” a speedy recovery.
Post script, After speaking to Tawera,s whanau this morning, they informed me that all messages should be send direct to Waikato Hospital. ——–
