USC Football Injury Report: Ailing Starter Away From Team Vs Ducks
Your 7-3 USC Trojans won’t get off to a big start in their upcoming, must-win game against the 8-1 Oregon Ducks tonight.
Chris Treviño of 247Sports reports that starting Jaylin Smith, who was injured in last week’s loss to the Washington
Huskies, is still out in Eugene tonight.
Despite being slightly undersized at 5’11” and 180 pounds, the Palmdale junior has played a key role at safety for USC this season.
In total, he scored racked up 57 tackles (41 solo, 16 assisted), one forced fumble and one pass defended against the Trojans in 2023.
Imagine what he could do with one Better defensive coordinator than Alex Grinch.
Smith, now 20, joined the Trojans as a four-star prospect from Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, California.
Look for Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley and interim co-defensive coordinators Shaun Nua and Brian Odom to lean on other safeties, including Christian Pierce, Bryson Shaw, Xamarion Gordon and Daniel Miller .
USC opens play as a -16.
