Alonso issues ‘fighting’ verdict over Hamilton and Perez F1 clash
Fernando Alonso insists Lewis Hamilton will fight until the end of the season to try to take second place in the drivers’ standings from Sergio Pérez.
Enjoying his most successful F1 season in more than a decade, Alonso, 42, claimed seven podiums, putting him fourth in the drivers’ championship.
Notably, he holds the title of oldest driver on the grid, 4 years older than Hamilton.
After a tumultuous year as teammates in 2007, Alonso and Hamilton were not always on the same page, especially as the Spaniard liked to take a few jabs at the press.
Alonso: Hamilton as inspiration Alonso was asked if Hamilton would maintain his motivation if he found himself in a similar situation to Alonso, driving for midfield teams throughout the past decade.
“It’s hard to say,” the two-time Spanish world champion replied.
“We have different personalities and motivations.
Lewis has always been very successful in remaining focused and competitive during periods of his life when he was not competitive.
“Those times weren’t many, but he always played at a high level.
Now he doesn’t have the best car, Red Bull dominates, but he still fights.
He chased Perez in P2 and he never gave up.
“It motivated us all to see how motivated Lewis still is after winning so many titles.
