Paul Finebaum on Jim Harbaugh: ‘He is detached from reality’

During his press conference on Monday, Jim Harbaugh shocked many when he boldly declared that he thinks the Michigan Wolverines are “America’s team” for overcoming adversity as the NCAA and the Big Ten investigate the football program for allegations of an illegal sign-stealing scheme. But college football expert Paul Finebaum isn’t really buying that claim.

During an appearance on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ on Monday, Paul Finebaum absolutely blasted Jim Harbaugh for his comments, suggesting that the Michigan head coach is “in an alternate universe.”

“I mean, I am sadly entertained by Jim Harbaugh because he does live, it seems, in an alternate universe. I sometimes wonder whether he’s trying to become a national championship-winning coach or the new host of The Daily Show,” said Finebaum. “He just doesn’t make a lot of sense. I mean, I’m trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. But I was really saddened by what I saw yesterday because he is detached from reality.”

Finebaum argues that Harbaugh and Michigan are not the victims of adversity in this situation; they created the adversity themselves by cheating, and he thinks there is a lot of evidence that shows it happened.

“It just doesn’t matter whether he was informed by a phone call from the commissioner, by his AD or president, or by Twitter. It’s still the same. He is not an innocent party here,” said Finebaum. “He’s being accused of serious things and that’s why the Big Ten acted the way it did.”

Harbaugh has been suspended three games by the Big Ten, serving the first game of that suspension during last week’s game against Penn State.
