“My disagreement with Wink is about who gets the last slice of pizza.” Giants coach Brian Daboll plays down rumors that he and DC Wink Martindale are at odds.

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll addressed recent reports suggesting a strained relationship with defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale, dismissing the notion of a rift.

NFL on Fox broadcaster Jay Glazer had earlier reported on potential tension between the two coaches, predicting a possible separation either during or after the season. Following the Giants’ 10-7 victory over the Patriots, Daboll responded to these reports in his post-game press conference.

Before the Giants won 10–7, Glazer said, “These guys are in a bad place, a bad place to the point where I don’t see them actually continuing this relationship after the season, maybe even during the season.” “I can sense the tension between these two when I speak with people inside that organization.”

In his humorous reply, Daboll played down the situation, saying, “Wink and I fight a lot over who gets to eat the last slice of pizza.” As a coach, I hold Wink in high regard.

Daboll showed unity by guaranteeing Martindale got the game ball for the team’s defensive effort, which saw them hold the Patriots to just seven points and force three turnovers, even though he did not directly refute the report. The Giants wanted to emphasize the good and cooperative aspects of their working relationship in the video that they released.

They are currently in their second season with the team, Daboll and Martindale. Under their direction, the team qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and increased its win total from 2021 to 2022. However, the Giants have fallen behind this season due to injuries and a more difficult schedule.
