Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo rips into ‘hype machine’ Gus Johnson for overplaying Michigan-Ohio State rivalry as he tells Fox Sports announcer there are four bigger matchups in US sport

Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo has rebuked Gus Johnson’s claim that Michigan-Ohio State is the ‘greatest rivalry in sports history’, as he went as far as to question the Fox Sports broadcaster’s knowledge on America’s landscape of college and professional sports.

Chris Russo warned sports fans to be careful with the hype machine over Michigan-Ohio State

Russo, who appears on ESPN’s ‘First Take’ on a weekly basis, singled out Johnson and his coverage of the Wolverines’ 30-24 win over the Buckeyes to his listeners on the SiriusXM radio show ‘Mad Dog Unleased‘ on Tuesday.

‘Gus Johnson—the hype machine that he is—please, when you broadcast a ballgame, I don’t need to hear about Maserati Marv’, number one. And number two, that’s not the greatest rivalry in sports history,’ Russo said of Michigan-Ohio State.

‘Have you heard of the Yankees and the Red Sox? Giants and the Dodgers? How about Bears-Packers? Have you heard about that?

‘For crying out loud, Michigan-Ohio State isn’t even better than North Carolina-Duke, who play twice a year. So let’s be careful with the hype machine. That bothered the hell out of me.’
