The Green Bay Packers’ backfield and secondary prospects improved Thursday, but the receiver corps could be without key players Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Receiver Jayden Reed, who scored his first touchdown in last week’s win over the Detroit Lions due to a chest injury, was not on the practice field with the rest of the team on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Reed completed part of his warm-up route at the Don Hutson Center before heading to the training equipment at the back of the facility.
On Thursday, he stayed indoors again, behind the rest of the team.
Coach Matt LaFleur said Reid, who was injured against the Chargers but played just one week with the Lions, hasn’t had any setbacks.
“I wouldn’t call this a setback,” Reed agreed.
“I’m just trying to take it one day at a time and do the right thing and go out on Sunday.
”Reed, a second-round pick, is second on the team with 36 receptions, first with 497 receiving yards and second with five touchdown receptions for six total touchdowns.
Not only is he in the top 10 among rookies in receptions, yards and touchdowns, he’s also No.
1 with seven receptions for 30 yards.
This is the most 30-yard catches by a Packers rookie since at least 2000.
“He’s just a real competitor and obviously helped us not only in the passing game but just getting the ball in his hands, whether it was on the turn” or whatever it was, turning on the screen.
” LaFleur said.
“And I love his competitiveness in both the running game and the passing game.
So he played every chance he got.
” Dillon returned to training after missing the last two days with a groin injury.
With Aaron Jones still out with a knee injury and Emmanuel Wilson on injured reserve, it’s up to Dillon and Patrick Taylor to shoulder the load again in the backfield against a stout Chiefs defense.
It’s on.
The secondary could also develop.
It would be the perfect time to play against MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander practiced for the second straight day after missing the last three games due to a shoulder injury.
When asked if he was leaning toward Alexander playing, Lafleur said, “We’ll have to wait and see.
” Starting Safety Darnell Savage, who spent the last five games on injured reserve due to a calf injury, practiced again after playing the full game on Wednesday.
“I feel better,” Savage said.
“It definitely feels a lot better to be able to practice again.

Will he return to the starting lineup or will the Packers stick with Jonathan Owens?
LaFleur said the coaching staff has considered the decision.
Cornerback Eric Stokes was also scheduled to return from injured reserve on Monday after missing five games with a hamstring injury.
Only Reid, Jones and cornerback Robert Rochell (calf) were off the field at the start of practice.
On Wednesday, the Packers listed 15 players on his injury report, 12 of whom did not practice or had limited practice.
The Chiefs had only two players who did not practice or were limited.
It was still 12:02 on Thursday.
All Chiefs players practiced, but running back Jerick McKinnon missed Wednesday and had limited participation Thursday.
