Tennessee star Dalton Knecht injured his left ankle during the Vols’ 100-92 loss to No.
17 North Carolina in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Wednesday night.
Knecht, who was scoring a game-high 37 points, twisted his left ankle while driving to the basket with 1:.
39 left.

He did not return after being helped to the bench.
“He stepped on someone’s foot and twisted his ankle,” Rick Barnes said after the game.
“It seemed like he did pretty well because he’s the type of guy who recovers.
So he doesn’t stand up, but he did it pretty well.
All in all, it felt good.

Knecht’s 37 points were the most by a visitor in the past 14 seasons at the Dean Smith Center and tied him with Lionel Simmons (January 1988) for the most by a visitor.
This was the most points in a game against North Carolina since former Kentucky guard Malik Monk scored 47 points in Las Vegas in December 2016.
Knecht also became the first Vol to score 30 points in a game since Jaden Springer against Georgia in February.

The last time Grant Williams scored 35 points or more was on January 23, 2019 against Vanderbilt.

“It wasn’t a surprise to see that because you see it every day,” Vols guard Josiah Jordan-James said.
“He was healthy and when he’s in shape he can play games like this and so can we.
We just have to work harder as a team.
We have to work harder as individuals to prepare the players.
” .
But it really paid off for him to keep us alive offensively in the second half.
Of Knecht’s points, 22 of his points came in the second half when he tried to get the Vols back in front after trailing 61-39 at halftime.
Knecht finished the game 13-of-17 from the floor, 4-of-8 from three-throws and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
He added five rebounds, two blocks, and one steal in 37 minutes.

Asked about possible adjustments if Knecht is out, James said, “It’s all adjustments.
” “Our mentality is a next-man-up mentality and we just have to be ready.
I feel relieved when everyone stands up and stands in their spots.
Tennessee is home for the first time in over three weeks next Tuesday night when the SEC plays at 6:30 p.m.
