Former Milwaukee Brewers prospect Aaron Familia, 24, dies after suffering heart attack while attempting to cross Mexico-United States border

A former Milwaukee Brewers prospect has died following an attempt to cross the United States-Mexico border.

Dominican Republic native Aaron Familia, 24, suffered a heart attack this week in Mexico, Dominican Republic newspaper El Diario Nuevo reported Friday.

‘We are saddened to hear of the passing of Aaron. Our condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time,’ the Brewers said in a statement Friday evening.

Familia last played in the Brewers organization in 2019 with Arizona League affiliate Biloxi Shuckers.

The infielder agreed to a $300,000 signing bonus as an international free agent in 2015.
