Ravens Name Veteran WR as Captain for Week 14 Showdown vs. Rams

In Week 14, the Baltimore Ravens make their way back from their bye to take on the Los Angeles Rams. The Ravens rotate their captains every week instead of having one captain for the entire season.

Head coach John Harbaugh announced on Wednesday, December 6, that wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. would be one of the captains for the team playing the Rams.

“Odell will be one of our captains in this game,” Harbaugh declared. He is going to toss the coin outside. And he will be having fun outside.

Beckham played a major role in the Rams’ 2021 Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

On Tuesday, December 6, Beckham told reporters about his time with the Rams: “I have a special bond with those guys over there. The group helped me rediscover my love and excitement for football.

Even though Beckham’s time with the Rams was brief, it was a crucial one for the star receiver’s career.

Midway through the 2021 season, the veteran was let go by the Cleveland Browns. In an attempt to bolster their already formidable wide receiver corps in anticipation of a Super Bowl run, Los Angeles added an explosive receiver.

With the Rams, Beckham had 27 catches for 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular-season games. But it was during the playoffs that he won over Rams supporters.

Week 16 of the regular season was Beckham’s game against the Ravens while he was a member of the Rams. Beckham outperformed his current team, recording five receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown.

The former first-round pick made light of the fact that he still keeps in touch with Rams players like quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Cooper Kupp. “I still hit a little group chat,” Beckham said to the media. I had a brief argument with them this week.

When Beckham was a member of the Rams, the Rams played the Ravens in Week 16 of the regular season. Compared to his current team, Beckham performed better, hauling in five receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown.

The former first-round selection laughed off the fact that he still maintains contact with wide receiver Cooper Kupp and quarterback Matthew Stafford of the Rams. Speaking to the media, Beckham said, “I still hit a little group chat.” This week, I got into a quick disagreement with them.

Coach Harbaugh praised Beckham to the media on Tuesday, December 6. “He’s a heck of a football player. He draws a lot of attention. He’s making plays and coming into his own health.”

That could be the most important factor for Beckham. This season, the Ravens have been cautious with the wide receiver, sitting him in Weeks 3 and 4 and giving him off days during practice week.

Baltimore is aware that this is a marathon rather than a sprint for the season. Above all, it is crucial to keep Beckham healthy for the playoffs and any potential Super Bowl run.

Especially since quarterback Lamar Jackson will be depending on Beckham and the rest of the receiving corps, tight end Mark Andrews is probably going to be sidelined for the season.

The field becomes more accessible for rookie Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and the running game when Beckham is fit and performing at his best.

According to Heavy Sports’ predictions based on the fourth quarter, the Ravens have a 65% chance of defeating the Rams and an expected win margin of 4.5 points.
