Florida football has officially arrived at their last home game day of the year, as they get ready to host the fifth-ranked Florida State Seminoles.
When the Semis walk into The Swamp, the Gators will have the chance to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the college football season and knock FSU entirely out of the playoff.
While a lot of schools that beat a top-five team in the country feel the need to rush the field after the win, that isn’t how we do things at the University of Florida.
So before the game today, it seems appropriate to remind everyone who will be at the game that rushing the field is silly.
Florida football: Just take care of business
Florida is a flagship school where a lot of other teams make their Super Bowl each and every season. We got proof of that last week when Missouri, a top-ten team that barely took care of the Gators, felt the need to Gator Chomp in players’ faces after the game.
Beating Florida is a milestone for a lot of schools, and it doesn’t matter how good the Gators are. It has always been true.
So with all that in mind, we have to remember that fans don’t need to rush the field when the Gators beat a higher-ranked team in The Swamp.
Taking down great teams is the standard in Gainesville. That hasn’t changed just because the Gators aren’t as dominant as they used to be.
Last season, FSU fans rushed the field when their No. 16 Noles beat a 6-6 Gator team at home. Do you want to know why? Because they aren’t accustomed to winning.
The Gators are. If Florida defends their home field tomorrow night and hands FSU their lone loss of the regular season, don’t rush the field.
Winning this game is the expectation. Act like it.
