Tennessee’s first transfer has announced his commitment to a new school.
The first of six Tennessee players to enter or declare their intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal has committed to a new program.
Cornerback Warren Burrell, the Vols’ first portal entry this season, will play his final season of eligibility at Georgia Tech after announcing his commitment on social media Sunday night.

Burrell played the past five seasons at Tennessee, recovering from a season-ending injury for two games into the 2022 season and appearing in 10 games this season as a defensive backup and special teams contributor.
Joining the Yellow Jackets will be a homecoming of sorts for Burrell, a native of Suwanee in the Atlanta area who played at North Gwinnett High School before going to Tennessee.
In 41 games with the Vols, Burrell totaled 91 tackles, three tackles for loss, nine pass breakups, and one interception.

Josh Heupel is the only former Tennessee coaching staff member to start all 12 games he played in during the 2021 season.
This was the first game under the current coaching staff.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder totaled 41 tackles and seven pass breakups in the best season of his career.
Burrell suffered a shoulder injury in Tennessee’s win over Pittsburgh last season and ended up redshirting.
He missed most of spring training before struggling with his defensive role during preseason camp.
Burrell was primarily a backup cornerback for the Vols in 2023.
He recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter of the University of Tennessee vs.
UTSA game in September.

Burrell also recovered a fumble following a missed punt in a win over Austin Peay two weeks ago.
The turnover gave Tennessee its first score of the game.
According to Pro Football Focus, Burrell has played the fourth-most snaps (166) of any Tennessee cornerback this season.
He played defensive snaps in nine games and received the most minutes against Austin Peay (40), Virginia (26), UTSA (23) and Connecticut (22).
In SEC play, Burrell recorded two tackles on a season-high 19 defensive snaps against Kentucky and played 18 snaps and made a tackle in the championship game against Vanderbilt at Neyland Stadium.

In his two games in 2022, Burrell recorded 12 total tackles with a pass breakup.
