The Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals have agreed to a trade.  Prospects Ryan Brady and Cam Devanney are leaving the Brew Crew in exchange for bullpen arm Taylor Clarke.

Taylor Clarke is a 30-year-old right-handed relief pitcher.  He previously agreed to a $1.25 million deal with the Royals in order to avoid arbitration.  Additionally he is under team control through the 2025 season and has one minor league option remaining.

On the mound, Taylor Clarke has a slider that generates a ton of swings and misses.  Opposing batters whiffed on it 32% of the time a season ago; it ranked in the 91st percentile in out-of-zone whiff percentage.  In other words, when batters chased it out of the zone, they struggled to make contact.  His fastball sits in the mid 90s and travels relatively straight, but he also mixes in a changeup as well.

Results-wise, he is coming off a season where he had a career-worst 5.95 ERA.  Over 279 innings pitched, his career ERA sits at 5.01.  He has racked up 24 holds and six saves over the past two seasons, so it is worth noting that he has high leverage experience.

Cam Devanney is a 26-year-old infielder who has been solid the past two seasons.  In 2022, he belted 23 home runs and posted a .834 OPS, primarily in double-A pitching and with 13 games worth of statistics in triple-a.  Last season, he played the entire year in Triple-A, where he had a .823 OPS with 11 home runs.

Ryan Brandy is a 24-year-old right-handed reliever who pitched excellently during his first full season of affiliated baseball.  He played 19 games in High-A and 18 games in Double-A and pitched to a 2.69 ERA between the two levels.  He struck out fewer batters (72) than innings pitched (77) but he is a strike thrower.
