Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims enters transfer portal

The Husker QB will transfer as a graduate transfer

Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims officially entered the transfer portal on Monday afternoon, sources told 247Sports’ Chris Hammer.
Sims’ time at Nebraska came to an end in the season’s second game against Colorado after a tough season plagued by turnovers and injuries.
He returned for a key moment against Maryland, but his turnover issues resurfaced.
He never regained the form many expected him to have last season when he transferred to Nebraska from Georgia Tech.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior played in five games and started two for the Huskers this season, completing 28 of 47 for 282 yards and a touchdown.
Sims added 42 carries for 189 yards and a touchdown.
He worked hard during the offseason, doing mental exercises at night to memorize the names of everyone on Nebraska’s vast roster.
And his training and leadership were so impressive that his teammates voted him the single-digit jersey winner for the 2023 season.

However, Sims’ time with the Huskers was marked by such turnovers.
He threw six interceptions this season.
Three of those were in Nebraska’s season-opening loss to Minnesota, and two were in Nebraska’s season-ending loss to Maryland.
Sims lost four fumbles this season and never lived up to the expectations Husker head coach Matt Rhule and his staff so desperately wanted last winter.
Rhule said last week that he appreciated how good Sims was as a teammate despite a tough season with the Huskers.
“If we had made a few layups and he had some confidence, maybe things could have been better,” Rhule said.
“He’s really talented.
He can run.
He’s dynamic.
He can make all the pitches.
He turned the ball over too many times.
But I love him as a person and I love his personality.
“Heinrich is a great teammate,” tight end Thomas Fidon said.
“You can see it everywhere.
” When Heinrich has a great game, he’s right there to cheer.
.
.
I don’t think many players do that.
This is a grown adult.
It takes a lot of maturity to be able to do something like that.
” Rhule said the most successful portal quarterbacks are those who have completed multiple seasons at a particular school.
“The portal that has had a lot of success He looks at the quarterback.
(Michael) Penix and (Bo) Nix—they’ve been there for a while.
It took several years.
I think there are various reasons, but I don’t regret taking Jeff with me.

Nebraska Football: Jeff Sims expected to enter transfer portal

I was really looking forward to having him here and I think he can do a lot to help the football team.
I wish we had done a better job in some way and helped him more.
” Sims joins the Nebraska program after spending the past three seasons at Georgia Tech.
Sims has started 23 games for the Yellow Jackets over the past three seasons, accumulating more than 5,500 yards of total offense.
Nebraska isn’t afraid to move to the quarterback position.
The Huskers welcomed Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord to Lincoln on Monday and added a number of other transfers, including Baylor’s Blake Shapen, Michigan’s Sam Leavitt, Kansas’ Will Howard and Washington’s Cam Ward.
Rumor has it that he is a portal quarterback.
Nebraska, where Sims entered the portal, returns Chubba Purdy and Heinrich Hurlberg from last season and will add Bellevue West quarterback Daniel Kaelin in January.
