Ezekiel Elliott ready to return to Dallas with Patriots: ‘It’s definitely going to be weird’ New England Patriots in Arlington, Texas for Week 4 date with Dallas Cowboys this weekend I’m packing my bags for the day.
That means a meeting with running back Ezekiel Elliott and his former team.
The Cowboys’ former first-round pick was asked Wednesday about the importance of returning to the place he once knew as the home of the NFL.
“I don’t necessarily know what to expect,” Elliott said, via Michael Gehrken of the Dallas Morning News.
“It’s definitely weird wearing different uniforms and being in different locker rooms.
” But I think it will be a good experience.
” Elliott admitted there are no hard feelings, “anybody who’s been released or fired is going to be mentally tough,” he said, “but life is life.
” “That’s it.
” It was up to me to get back on the horse.
Don’t let negative emotions weigh you down.
Negatives must be transformed into positives.
That’s what I’m working on.
” Elliott wasn’t simply pushed aside by a Cowboys team interested in signing the younger, cheaper Tony Pollard.
He said his representatives discussed returning at a lower salary on Wednesday.
Of course, that didn’t happen and Elliott ended up joining the Patriots, where he would share the backcourt with Rhamondre Stephenson.
So far, all is well.
Elliott shares just over a third of the carries with Stevenson and averages 4.
4 yards per attempt over Stevenson (compared to Stevenson’s 2.
9 yards per tote).
This combination strengthens a rushing attack that ranks 14th in the league and leaves room for improvement.
Maybe the Patriots will see a surge in production this weekend.
Dallas ranks 25th in rushing yards and gave up 222 rushing yards last weekend against the Arizona Cardinals.
Regardless of the outcome, Elliott is just grateful for the new opportunity to play a role in the team’s offense.
It was okay to get back on the horse.
