The latest Aston Villa news as Unai Emery’s team continue to be linked with Verona attacker Cyril Ngonge but face competition from clubs in Italy.
Aston Villa may have received a boost in their reported pursuit of Verona winger Cyril Ngonge, with the player reportedly not fully against moving to the Premier League.
Reports earlier this week claimed that Villa had reached a verbal ‘agreement’ of €10 million (£8.7 million) for the player, but Ngonge himself would need convincing to move to Villa Park. Further reports later in the week add that the offer remains on the table, suggesting that it has not yet been fully accepted.
Villa are said to face competition from Serie A side Fiorentina for the 23-year-old, but they are yet to send an offer due to them believing that the valuation by Verona is too high. Corriere dello Sport (via SportWitness ), says that Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Italiano is pushing for the club to make their move for the player.
It is added that Verona are looking for a fee of ‘just under €15 million’ (£12.9m). The report also provides an update on the player’s stance on a possible move this January.
It is said that Ngonge isn’t fully against moving to the Premier League, but it is suggested that he would opt to stay in Italy if he has the chance, as he believes that the Italian league is more suited to his strengths and ‘characteristics’. He therefore believes that he would get more game time by staying in Serie A instead of moving to England.
Ngonge only moved to Verona this time last year, moving from Dutch second-tier side FA Groningen. The Belgian started his career with Club Brugge before making the move to the Netherlands in 2020.
This season, he has scored five times and provided two assists in 17 Serie A appearances. The player can be used either on the right win, as a supporting striker, or as the main centre-forward with him playing all three positions so far this season.
