Three Clemson football players were suspended for failing drug tests.
Clemson football players Deon Cain, Ammon Lakip, and Jay Jay McCullough have been suspended for failing drug tests and sent home from the College Football Playoff Orange Bowl semifinal, according to a person familiar with the situation.
Because of the sensitive nature of the situation, the individual spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Cain, a freshman wide receiver, is tied for third on the team in receptions. Lakip, a senior kicker, received a three-game suspension earlier this season following a spring arrest for cocaine possession and DUI. McCullough, a junior tight end, has made no receptions this season for the Tigers, who are undefeated and ranked first.
Tigers coach Dabo Swinney is expected to address the situation Wednesday morning during his final organized media availability before Thursday’s Orange Bowl game against No. 4 Oklahoma.
