Guardians manager Vogt finalises staff.
Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt has bolstered his coaching staff by retaining Sandy Alomar Jr. and Carl Willis, both of whom worked under former manager Terry Francona for many years.
Cleveland recruited Vogt earlier this month, despite the fact that he has no managing experience. He’ll have continuity in Alomar, who will coach first base and catchers, as well as Willis, who has helped the Guardians construct one of baseball’s greatest pitching staffs.
The popular Alomar, a six-time all-star catcher for Cleveland, has been on the team’s staff for 15 seasons, while Willis has 14. They were essential in assisting Francona, who stepped down after leading the Guardians to the playoffs six times in 11 years.
Vogt also hired Craig Albernaz as his bench coach, succeeding DeMarlo Hale, who was recently named Toronto’s associate manager.
Albernaz, who was San Francisco’s bullpen coach last season before being named Cleveland’s major league field coordinator a few weeks ago, has made a seamless transition.
Kai Correa, who has spent the last four seasons as San Francisco’s bench coach, will be Cleveland’s field coordinator. The 35-year-old was the Giants’ interim manager for the final three games of the season.
In addition, Chris Valaika will return for his third season as Cleveland’s hitting coach.
