Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca has agreed to a move to Real Betis on loan for the 23/24 season, with the La Liga outfit paying his wages.

Leeds are starting to sanction departures from their first team this month, with Tyler Roberts already confirmed as a permanent exit.

There are more senior presences expected to depart the club in the coming weeks, starting with Marc Roca.

Marc Roca to Betis?

The Spanish midfielder looks set to return to familiar pastures with Estadio Deportivo claiming that a move is agreed for Roca to head to Real Betis.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men are going to be playing Europa League football next season and Roca has been targeted as a replacement for the outbound Carvalho.

Now, they are claiming that the move is totally agreed for Roca to head to Betis on a season-long loan in 23/24.

Will they pay his wages?

A boost for Leeds, the report also reveals that Betis will be covering the finances of the deal, including his wages:

“It should be remembered that the English, after their relegation to Championship, were obliged to accept a loan from the Spanish midfielder as long as their destination team took care of their file in full.”

Leeds were said to be reluctant to allow an option-to-buy in the deal, but Betis appear to have managed to include one in the loan agreement.

Roca previously earned £50,000-per-week after joining from Bayern Munich (via Capology), but due to his pay-cut, will now potentially earn £25,000-per-week – which Betis will be covering.

If we weren’t going to sell him permanently, the next best thing is to have another club paying his wages for the season.

It means we’re going to be clear of him on the wage bill, so we can move to replace him without the pressure of an inflated cost on the club.

While he was very poor for us over the course of the season, especially in the end, I don’t doubt that he’ll show his worth at Betis in a more favourable environment.
