Man City defender Aymeric Laporte has rejected a summer move to Tottenham, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old’s Etihad Stadium future is in doubt after limited involvement in the 2022-23 campaign.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (9 June) that Laporte will be considered surplus to requirements at Man City if they succeed in bringing in a top-class defender in the transfer window.

A well-placed source has revealed that Tottenham have moved to sound out the Spain international about the possibility of moving to the Londoners this summer.

However, Laporte is not interested – and Spurs have now turned their attention to alternative targets.

The former Athletic Club defender is under contract at Man City until June 2025.

Laporte made 24 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign – starting in 20 of those outings.

Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, and Manuel Akanji have all been preferred in Pep Guardiola’s first-choice XI – while John Stones has been used in a holding midfield role.

Guardiola is believed to be keen to add a top-class central defender to his ranks this summer.

Football Insider revealed on 9 June that Man City have held initial talks with RB Leipzig over the signing of defender Josko Gvardiol.

The defender, who earns a reported wage of £120,000-a-week, has won five Premier League titles, four League Cups, two FA Cups and a Champions League during his time at the club.

He cost a reported club-record fee of £57million in 2018.
