FC Cincinnati 2 sign midfielder Alejandro Guido as player-coach

Alejandro Guido, a midfielder, has joined FC Cincinnati 2 as a player-coach, the team announced today. For the forthcoming 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season, Guido will become a member of both Head Coach Tyrone Marshall’s coaching staff and the team as a player. The terms of the contract were kept confidential per club policy.

After playing three full seasons with the San Diego Loyal in the USL Championship in 2021–2023, Guido, 29, signs a contract with the Orange and Blue. In his 100 games with the team, Guido guided the Loyal to three straight USL Championship Playoff appearances.

Guido joined Loyal on loan from MLS team Los Angeles Football Club in 2020 and finished with 13 goals, 13 assists, and almost 6,500 minutes played in all competitions. In just under 300 minutes over his five loan games, Guido led San Diego to an undefeated streak with two goals and two assists.

The product of Chula Vista, California, made his debut in a 2-1 victory over Celaya FC and signed a professional contract with Liga MX team Club Tijuana in 2012. Guido played for Tijuana’s first squad for seven years, making 56 appearances. He was on loan at Dorados de Sinaloia for the 2013–2014 season.

Guido joined with LAFC after leaving Tijuana, and he played in many different competitions as a member of the matchday roster, including the 2019 Concacaf Champions Cup and the MLS regular season.

Guido earned his first senior USMNT call-up in 2018 and competed for the United States at the U17, U18, U20, and U23 levels internationally. Guido made four appearances in the 2011 U17 FIFA World Cup in Mexico and has four goals for the Stars and Stripes in 50 games.
