Austin FC Signs Defender Brendan Hines-Ike

Brendan Hines-Ike, a free agency defender, has joined Austin FC’s Major League Soccer (MLS) squad, the club announced today. Hines-Ike signs a one-year contract with the Verde & Black that is guaranteed through the end of the 2024 campaign, with a 2025 option.

“I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to sign with Austin FC,” Hines-Ike remarked. “I’m prepared to work and contribute in any way I can to help the team reach its objectives this season.”

Hines-Ike, a 29-year-old center back, is originally from Denver, Colorado. He played three (3) seasons of collegiate soccer with Creighton University, and one (1) for the University of South Florida. Hines-Ike then began his professional career in the Swedish Allsvenskan with Örebro SK, where he recorded four (4) goals and three (3) assists in 70 appearances from 2016 to 2018.

After that, he joined KV Kortrijk of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, where he appeared in 53 games from 2018 to 2021. Hines-Ike signed a permanent contract with D.C. United on January 4, 2022, after initially joining the MLS team on loan prior to the 2021 season. He participated in 49 competitions during his three (3) years in Washington, D.C.

Rodolfo Borrell, Sporting Director of Austin FC, stated, “Brendan brings both experience competing in Europe and knowledge of MLS to our group of center backs.” “He gives us another strong option at the position and adds depth as well.”

Hines-Ike will occupy Senior and Domestic designations on the Austin FC roster.
