According to sources, FC Cincinnati is close to acquiring DeAndre Yedlin from Inter Miami for $172,000 in General Allocation Money.
Yedlin completed a transfer from Turkish club Galatasaray and has been in Miami for the past two years, making 80 appearances at the newly dubbed Chase Stadium.
The former defender for Tottenham and Newcastle was instrumental in helping Tata Martino’s team win the Leagues Cup last season, their first-ever title.
The transfer will also free up significant space on their salary budget, given Yedlin’s cap hit was an estimated $683,000.
Julian Gressel is expected to replace him at right back in Miami for the meantime, though Houston Dynamo defender Franco Escobar is believed to be a target for the club.
As for Yedlin, he will slot into the right wing-back position in Pat Noonan’s 3-4-3 system over in Cincinnati.
The 30-year-old, who has been capped 81 times by the USMNT, started his career in MLS with Seattle Sounders before heading to the Premier League to sign for Tottenham in 2014.
After making just one appearance for Spurs and being sent out on loan to Sunderland, Yedlin was sold to the latter’s bitter rivals Newcastle in 2016.
He spent five years at St James’ Park, making 125 appearances while helping the Magpies go from second-tier English club to top-flight regulars once again.
