The March Nebraska reset: Offensive line
With spring football still a month away and a portion of the 2024 recruiting class on campus for winter conditioning, Nebraska football is well into its offseason. This seems like the ideal time to evaluate each position before spring ball gets underway.
The one unit on Nebraska’s roster that benefited from continuity in Matt Rhule’s debut season going into 2023 was the offensive line.
The heavily criticized Nebraska offensive line from 2022 did improve in 2023. Ben Scott, a center, emerged from the transfer portal as a hit player, offering consistency at the position, and Bryce Benhart enjoyed his finest season as a Husker.
Nebraska finished second in the Big Ten in rushing last season, and anecdotally, the pass protection was improved, though the Huskers did give up 30 sacks on the year — a slight improvement from the 2022 season. How might the group have been helped in the run game had it not regularly faced eight- and nine-man defensive fronts?
