Projected Texas Tech football depth chart ahead of spring football

The running back position is the easiest to estimate for 2024. Tahj Brooks, who ran for 1,538 yards and 10 touchdowns this past fall, is back there.

Though many believed he would go to the NFL, he returned to try to break the school record for career rushing yards, which he is less than 1,200 yards away from, because of the N.I.L. prospects. He is expected to be Tech’s workhorse in the backfield and one of the top running backs in the country.

Behind him comes Cam’Ron Valdez, another player many predicted would depart this offseason. He saw just 52 carries for 286 yards and one touchdown last season; following the season, he briefly entered his name in the transfer portal before opting to return to Lubbock.

Tech has a strong 1-2 punch at running back with that combination. In fact, since 2015, when DeAndre Washington was a senior and had just finished his second consecutive season with 1,000 yards rushing, this is probably the greatest form the Red Raider RB position has been in.

Where the depth stacks up after those two is up in the air right now, though. Players such as Bryson Donell, Anquan Willis, and true freshmen Cameron Dickey and JMuary Davis will all have something to prove if they want to earn any snaps in 2024.
